Coming into work, I was stuck behind a gray Nissan Versa SV Special Edition sedan. I didn’t know these things existed. I wondered, how could Nissan, the manufacturer of some of the shittiest cars on sale in the United States, make the Versa, one of the shittiest cars money can buy, even less (more?) shitty? Well, here’s the answer to the question you never asked and didn’t want answered anyway:
15-in. split six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels
A pple CarPlay® and Android Auto™
Fog lights
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
NissanConnect® 7-in. touchscreen display
Nissan Intelligent Key® with push-button ignition
Piano black trim
SiriusXM® Satellite Radio
Tire pressure monitoring system
According to Nissan, “t he 2019 Nissan Versa SV continues to add interior features you don’t want to be without, but the all-new Versa SV Special Edition boasts advanced technology that makes driving truly effortless.” Damn, it’s almost as well-featured as an E90 M3.
The car I was behind looked like this one. This isn’t it, obviously.

Tire pressure monitoring isn't a feature, though, it's government mandated basic equipment. Its like when used car dealers write a whole paragraph of info on a car spelling out every last attribute - cloth seats, radio, power windows, air bags

What year did they start mandating? Legitimately curious. My e46 has it as an option (that’s not on my car) but I think it came standard on my 2007 Mazda3

Nissan does this when they’re trying to drum up a little interest in the final year of a soon-to-be replaced car. Honda used to do the same thing up until maybe about 10 years ago. The difference is the SV is (usually) the top Versa trim while Honda special editions usually were slightly tarted up base or mid-grade trims.
I found a video about the Versa SV Special Edition , here’s what’s different over the SV:

It’s not clear from the post but what they actually mean is the SE upgrades the basic TPMS to Nissan’s easy-fill system.

9/1/07, so 2008 MY. But some manufacturers started earlier.

Honda still does it—my grandmother drives a Honda Accord Sport “Special Edition” from the last year (2017?) before they released the new fastback Accord. Not sure what’s special, but it certainly is badged as such.

It’s because they know there’s really no value or appeal there, so they gotta try and sell stuff thats not extras as such to win you over. It’s all p sychological. A lot of automakers do this same thing with back up cameras, even though the feds state all new cars have to have them.
